A number of years ago I applied for a position as package designer for a local company representing Revell models. The job involved painting realistic background scenery for the individual kit packaging. P51 Mustangs would have elaborate dogfight scenes; battleships would be shown rolling on violent seas. Since I had little experience painting with acrylics, I was given an opportunity to prove myself before the position was filled. I chose to represent this soldier, whom I found in the pages of a Life Magazine photo book. The painting took me 3 long nights to complete and won me a job offer, which I declined for another opportunity. Dang.
